Russians stolen 4M cu m of water from Dnieper since they blew up hydraulic structure in Kherson region

Russia has stolen over 4,000,000 cubic meters of water from the Dnieper since they blew up a temporary hydraulic structure blocking the flow of water to the occupied Crimea.

The relevant statement was made by the Ukrainian Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Ministry on Facebook, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“After Russians blew up a temporary structure blocking the flow of water to the occupied Crimea in February, the water from the Dnieper continued to flow into the canal. Russia has already stolen over 4 million cubic meters of water from the Dnieper,” the report states.

According to the ministry, the damage caused to the environment has been estimated at UAH 15.5 billion.

A reminder that Ukraine had halted the supply of water to Crimea since 2014 after the peninsula was occupied by the Russian Federation. In early 2022, having partially seized the Kherson region, Russians blew up a hydraulic structure blocking the flow of water.

This caused damage to Ukraine’s civil infrastructure and made it impossible to irrigate agricultural lands in the Kherson region’s Skadovsk district and Kakhovka district. Additionally, such actions caused a significant damage to the environment and resulted in huge material losses for Ukraine.
