Blast was felt by residents in Thunder Bay area, leading to questions on social media.
THUNDER BAY – A large blast that reverberated across parts of the Thunder Bay area Tuesday evening was the result of highway work in the Copenhagen Road area, Ontario Provincial Police say.
Residents questioned what caused the event after feeling or hearing the blast around 5 p.m., with some asking on social media if it could have been an earthquake.
Instead, an OPP representative said it resulted from blasting work related to improvements to Highway 11/17 between Thunder Bay and Nipigon, in the area of Copenhagan Road.
