Parts of Memorial Avenue between Central Avenue and the Harbour Expressway will be closed over the coming days as the city completes resurfacing work. THUNDER BAY — Repaving work is set to close sections of Memorial Avenue between Central Avenue and the Harbour Expressway beginning on Tuesday. The resurfacing project, which involves milling and paving two lifts of asphalt, is expected to take six to eight days to complete in total. The project comes a year after the city resurfaced Memorial between Central and Second avenues.
In the first phase of the work, expected to take one day, Memorial’s southbound curb lane will be closed, along with access from the west side approaches of Central, 10th, 11th, 12th, and 13th avenues.
In the second phase of work, expected to take one day, the northbound curb lane will be closed, along with access from west side approaches of Central and 11th avenues.
A third phase, expected to last two to three days, will close Memorial’s inside and centre lanes, with traffic permitted in curb lanes only.
Drivers should expect intermittent closures and turning restrictions at intersections during that phase of work, the city advised.
A fourth phase, expected to take another two to three days, will involve intermittent closures of Memorial and some side approaches in sections as final repaving progresses.
The city noted projected timelines are estimates and could change due to weather and other factors.
Motorists are asked to obey any posted signage and drive with caution in the area while work is underway.
