Russian invaders have already used more than 1,200 missiles and drones to shell key energy facilities across Ukraine.
Ukraine’s National Power Company Ukrenergo said this in a statement on Telegram, Ukrinform reports.
“None of the European energy system has experienced such an attempted large-scale destruction: Russians have fired more than 1,200 missiles and drones at key energy facilities. Unfortunately, more than 250 of them hit the target – 43% of the main networks were damaged. All thermal and hydroelectric power plants came under shelling and suffered varying degrees of damage,” the report says.
According to the assessment by the World Bank and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the damage caused to the Ukrainian energy system is catastrophic: the cost of emergency repairs of Ukrenergo high voltage transmission networks is estimated at almost $1 billion this year.
It is noted that Ukrenergo has already received almost 500 units of equipment from its European partners, and more equipment is being manufactured and delivered to Ukraine. Due to the joint efforts, as of today, 80% of the damaged main networks have been brought back into operation, at least partially.
Ukrenergo assured that the power plants now produce enough electricity to cover consumption demand, and there is no need to introduce power outages.
As reported by Ukrinform, international partners and donors provided NEC Ukrenergo with more than EUR 700 million in loans to help restore the energy system.
