War update: Ukraine’s missile, artillery units hit eight enemy clusters, command post

Ukraine’s missile and artillery units have hit one Russian command post, eight enemy clusters, one ammunition depot and one fuel depot in the past 24 hours.

The relevant statement was made by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Facebook, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

Over the past day, Russian troops have launched two missile strikes and six air strikes. The enemy also opened fire with multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) over 20 times, namely on civil infrastructure in such regions as Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson. Casualties among civilians were reported.

The threat of air and missile strikes is persisting all over Ukraine.

In the Volyn, Polissia, Siverskyi and Slobozhanskyi directions, the situation remained rather unchanged. No enemy offensive groupings were detected.

On January 16, 2023, near the border with Ukraine, Russian and Belarusian air units started joint military exercises, involving combat aircraft of the two countries.

According to the General Staff, under the guise of joint exercises, Russia strengthened its air grouping in Belarus. Thus, the threat of air and missile strikes from the airspace of Belarus is increasing.

Over 30 settlements came under enemy tank, mortar and artillery fire, including the Kharkiv region’s Veterynarne, Zelene, Ternova, Starytsia, Vilcha, Budarky and Topoli, and the Sumy region’s Seredyna Buda, Popivka, Pavlivka and Kindrativka.

In the Kupiansk and Lyman directions, Russian invaders shelled over 10 settlements, namely the Kharkiv region’s Kotliarivka, Krokhmalne, Berestove and Vilshana, and the Luhansk region’s Novoselivske, Stelmakhivka, makiivka, Nevske and Kreminna.

In the Bakhmut direction, over 15 settlements came under enemy fire, including the Donetsk region’s Rozdolivka, Krasnopolivka, Soledar, Krasna Hora, Bakhmut, Klishchiivka, Bila Hora, Kurdiumivka, Pivnichne and Vesele.

In the Avdiivka direction, Russian troops opened fire on the Donetsk region’s Krasnohorivka, Berdychi, Kamianka, Avdiivka, Pervomaiske, Nevelske, Heorhiivka, Marinka and Novomykhailivka.

In the Novopavlivka direction, Russian occupiers shelled the Donetsk region’s Vuhledar, Prechystivka, Mykilski Dachi and Velyka Novosilka.

In the Zaporizhzhia direction, Russian invaders launched artillery strikes on over 15 settlements, namely the Zaporizhzhia region’s Zelene Pole, Olhivske, Poltavka, Bilohiria, Novodanylivka, Orikhiv, Novoandriivka, Stepove, Huliaipole and Kamianske.

In the Kherson direction, Russian occupiers continue to cause terror against civilians. The enemy launched mortar and artillery strikes, in particular, on such settlements as Havrylivka, Dudchany, Kachkarivka, Zmiivka, Beryslav, Lvove, Novotiahynka, Sadove, Antonivka, Kizomys and Kherson.

According to the available data, those foreign citizens in Russia who applied for Russian citizenship are offered to join the ranks of the Russian army voluntarily and automatically obtain the Russian passport. Moscow-based business entities are forced to donate at least RUB 10 million for Russia’s armed forces.

In the Luhansk region’s Novopskov, on January 15, 2023, one of Russian S-300 missiles landed on a residential house. Two civilians were killed.

In the temporarily occupied areas of the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions, Russian occupiers are strengthening counterintelligence and security measures. Local residents are checked extensively, especially their mobile phones.
