本片由主角的主觀記憶組成，描繪他在北方遇到的人事物，然而記憶並不完整與精確，形成了一部由超現實影像所寫成的北國奇遇記。
本片是山村浩二導演的長片作品，結合了手繪、描圖、暈染等技法，構築出夢境般的詩意風格，唯有動畫的表現才能將這樣的意境表達得淋漓盡致。
