One ousted regional MP said soldiers looted her home before sealing it off.
Soldiers in Tanintharyi Region on Monday cordoned off the homes of a regional minister and a lawmaker for the National League for Democracy (NLD), both of whom went into hiding in the wake of the February 1 coup.
Some 60 soldiers travelling in 4 trucks arrived at the house of Myint San, the ousted agriculture minister, in Minyat village, Launglon Township, to seal off his house, a local told Myanmar Now.
“The soldiers asked the villagers where Myint San’s house was and sealed it right away,” the local said.
At about 10:30pm the same evening, soldiers travelled to Kyauksin village and sealed the house of ousted regional NLD MP Bo Htwe, he said on his Facebook page.
“This is the very house where I had countless meetings and arguments with my colleagues,” Bo Htwe wrote. “This house did nothing but lift me up. This was a house that was free of tears, suffering and wrath. My dear home, you’ve done a good job in making me the person I am today.”
In September junta soldiers cordoned off four other houses in Tanintharyi belonging to NLD officials.
They included two houses belonging to Moe Moe Thu, an ousted regional MP for Dawei Township, as well as the home of Zaw Lay, a township-level party central executive committee member, and Soe Hteik, a NLD member.
Moe Moe Thu also said that soldiers broke into both her houses and spent three days looting them, even stealing a car, before sealing them off.
“They broke the front doors and took everything,” she said. “They carried the things from my house in four cars. They were monitoring every house in the neighbourhood so that they wouldn’t be recorded,” Moe Moe Thu told Myanmar Now.
“This is just unfair and lawless. I’m just doing what I think is right. It would be nice if they could have some boundaries,” she said.
A junta official did not respond to a request for comment on the incidents.
Anti-junta guerilla forces have been active in Launglon recently. One Sunday morning People’s Defence Force (PDF) fighters killed six junta soldiers during a clash in which a PDF fighter also died. Another three people were severely injured.
