THUNDER BAY — Bearskin Airlines has officially announced a service upgrade for its Northern Ontario network. Starting January 4, 2026, the regional carrier began replacing its traditional 19-seat Fairchild Metroliner aircraft with the larger Dash 8 on several high-demand routes. This move, supported by parent company Perimeter Aviation, aims to provide passengers with a more comfortable travel experience and increased seating capacity.

New Cabin Experience and Service The introduction of the Dash 8-100 and Dash 8-300 marks a significant change for Bearskin’s frequent flyers. Unlike the compact Metroliner, the Dash 8 features a much larger cabin where passengers can stand up straight, along with more overhead storage and the presence of a flight attendant to assist during the flight. These upgrades are currently scheduled primarily for Monday and Tuesday flights.

Upgraded Route Details The specific flights receiving the Dash 8 upgrade include the JV318 and JV319 routes, which connect Winnipeg, Red Lake, Sioux Lookout, and Thunder Bay. Additionally, routes connecting Thunder Bay to Sudbury, North Bay, and Sault Ste. Marie (flights JV374 and JV377) will also see the larger aircraft in rotation.
